"deep like a mountain upside down, you turn my heart around, oh mighty canyon...." "wide, like an earthquake long since gone, an earth born silent song, oh mighty canyon..." "beautiful a still art kaleidoscope... you seem so real but then you don't, oh mighty canyon...." "miracle...wonder on earth..." "freedom...." hi, i'm karlyn bunting and i just got back from a 7-day white water rafting trip through the grand canyon with grand canyon white water..." got a nice beard to prove it as well! one of the first things we did was stop and hike up to north canyon; that's someplace i've always wanted to hike to! i've seen pictures of it and there was a beautiful pool up there that evening when we hiked up there.
we also passed by vasey's paradise which was named by john wesley powell back in 1869. then we went to redwall cavern, where john wesley powell thought 50,000 people could have fit! i don't know about 50,000, but maybe 5 (thousand)! we stopped, played a little football and even did a little climbing at the back of redwall cavern. then we went to the little colorado river and floated down by making a chain and had just a ball of fun! the little colorado river was running muddy, but boy was it fun to float down and i'm glad we stopped! next we went to phantom ranch; we were able to go up to the ranch, have a nice cold glass of lemonade... ...and from there we continued on down the colorado river, and hit one of the first great rapids you'll enjoy in the grand canyon: hermit rapid! we've hit many other rapids up to this point, but hermit is remarkable, and i will not forget our ride through hermit rapid...
...the water was up at 24 to 25 thousand cfs (cubic feet per second) and what a ride it is! then we stopped at one of those beautiful little side canyons called "elves' chasm." one of those beautiful places where you're able to climb up, jump in the water...kind of a hidden secluded little "shangri-la" if you will... after that we went to deer creek and at deer creek we hiked up to what they call "the patio..." there's some interesting little cliff areas you hike past and some handprints on the wall on the other side... ...i have no idea how they got there, but it's quite interesting! and it's just beautiful back in the "patio" portion of deer creek. after deer creek we went to that beautiful blue travertine creek called havasu creek... havasu creek flows into the colorado river from the havasupai indian nation and what a beautiful place that is! we were able to stop, have our lunch there, we floated, we swam, and we enjoyed havasu creek.
after havasu creek is that grand-daddy of 'em all: lava falls! at lava falls it was raging, it was out of control... we had a great time running the rapid through lava falls. the only problem with lava falls is it's kind of melancholy... ..'cause then you know your grand canyon white water rafting trip is coming to a fast close after lava falls, we took a helicopter flight from the bottom of the grand canyon up to bar 10 ranch... we were able to have a shower - that's kind of a unique thing after 7 days out on the colorado river! - and then we had a quick bite to eat... ...and then we flew to marble canyon. what a great way to spend a week of your time on a grand canyon white water rafting trip! i would like to thank grand canyon white water for taking us down through the grand canyon.. ...and i really appreciate the friends i was able to enjoy, and the new friends that i made on my grand canyon white water raft trip... ...that's one of the great things that happens, you get to know others, you get to know their story...
most importantly, i appreciate my son and my daughter going with me this time. what fun that was! we made memories that will last a lifetime and i'm glad they were able to go through the grand canyon with me. i'd like to highly recommend that you consider a white water rafting trip through the grand canyon with your family... it will be a memory you will not forget and you just need to pick a week, pick the date, get your family together and just go do it! believe me, you will not regret it, it's the memory of a lifetime, i highly recommend it...we'll see you on the colorado river! thank you for watching grandcanyon.com!
